Friendship is a relationship with no strings attached except the ones we choose to tie, one that's about being there, as best we can.
Daniel H. Rigby was born October 25, 1982 to Mary and Kevin Rigby. He grew up in River Edge, NJ with siblings Patrick and Katie. Dan graduated Bergen Catholic High School in 2001. At B.C. - on top of being academically successful - Dan played three sports, was captain of the football team, and led the mock trial team to the NJ state championship. The gavel Dan is holding above was awarded him for winning Most Outstanding Lawyer in the 2000 national tournament.
Dan was accepted to Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business and similar to high school filled his spare time with activities. He signed up to play rugby on his first day in DC and spent spring break vacations leading trips to West Virginia donating time and energy for Habitat for Humanity; sleeping on a floor at night, hanging drywall by day. Dan's life was tragically taken on October 17, 2004 in an off-campus house fire in Georgetown, Washington DC.
If we shine a light for others, it also brightens our way. We need to let those important to us how much we love and value them.
In a way only he could, Danny was the glue in everything he did. He was the connector, the leader, and our rock. The photo above is from a poster made by the Bergen Catholic incoming freshmen class of 2004. Each summer, BC upperclassmen volunteer their time at freshmen orientations to help the newcomers feel welcome. When asked at the end of the event to draw a poster of what their favorite part of the day was, well, a picture is worth a thousand words.
